## A Movie Commission
By 1980, Willie Nelson was the face of Outlaw Country and a bona fide superstar. He was cast to star in the movie ‘Honeysuckle Rose,’ playing an aging musician caught in a love triangle. During the flight with the film’s executive producer, Sydney Pollack, Nelson was asked if he could write an original song that encapsulated the themes of the movie—specifically, the endless, addictive cycle of a touring musician’s life.

## Inspiration at 30,000 Feet
Never one to delay a spark of inspiration, Nelson agreed to write it right then and there. Unfortunately, he had no notepad. He reached into the seat pocket in front of him, grabbed the airplane’s paper airsick bag, and a pen. In just a few minutes, he scribbled down the complete, iconic lyrics that perfectly described his deep love for playing music with his friends.

## An Immortal Anthem
By the time the plane landed, Willie handed the vomit bag to the producers. That hastily scrawled poem became ‘On the Road Again,’ one of the most recognizable and enduring country anthems ever recorded. It won a Grammy, earned an Oscar nomination, and became the ultimate theme song for touring musicians across every genre worldwide.
