## A Battle with the Demons
Keith Urban had it all: he was a globally recognized, incredibly handsome Australian country superstar and an absolute virtuoso on the electric guitar. But behind the blazing solos and the million-dollar smile, Urban was fighting a brutal, losing battle against severe cocaine and alcohol addiction. He had successfully completed rehab in 1998, but by the mid-2000s, he had relapsed heavily.

## An Intervention of Love
In June 2006, Urban married Hollywood superstar Nicole Kidman. Less than four months into their marriage, Kidman realized the devastating extent of Urban’s addiction. Rather than walking away, Kidman staged a highly dramatic intervention, begging him to choose life. She canceled her own movie schedules to support him as Urban checked into the Betty Ford Center for a strenuous three-month stint.

## A Permanent Choice
Urban successfully completed the program and emerged entirely sober, a streak he has maintained ever since. He famously credits his wife Nicole with literally saving his life, often remarking that ‘Stupid Boy,’ a song about a man ruining the best thing that ever happened to him, deeply reflects the terrible mistakes he almost made before love pulled him from the abyss.
